An old porcelain bathtub sits in the middle
Of a damp bathroom,
Drip
Drip
Drip
Echoes softly,
Rust stains nestle on the faucet,
And the semi-clogged drain.
Tile broken and chipped,
Colors faded,
Paint peeling,
A bulb hanging on a few strands of wire.
In the other room,
A radiator stands against a wall
Tapping excessively,
Giving off little heat,
It is old and needs to be repaired.
A cuckoo clock hangs on the wall,
No longer ticking.
The lonely cuckoo remains inside,
No longer sounding the alarm of the next hour.
The hardwood floors creak
When walked on,
Loose and worn.
Stains from coffee and wine are splattered
Near the kitchen entrance.
No shine whatsoever.
An apartment left unattended,
Roommates live there,
But their souls are not alive.
Going on daily business,
But not caring for what is truly around them.
A loveseat and a chair
Stand alone in a semi-dark room.
Stained and raveling at the seams
As is this relationship and the apartment.
Care not a concern,
Too comfortable as an old pair of shoes,
Home and relationship no longer maintained,
Both are falling apart at the seams.
